Why does the Holy Spirit matter?

There is one God eternally existent in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  You're probably familiar with the Father and the Son, but who is the Holy Spirit, and why does He matter?

Simply put, without the presence and power of the Holy Spirit it's impossible for us to live the lives Jesus has saved us for!  And that's because Christianity is not primarily about what we can do for Jesus, but what He can do through us.
