Sunday morning, I read Psalm 97:11 "Light is sown for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart."
I get weary of being righteous. For me, going home early on Saturday night so I'm awake for church and kind to people the next morning becomes a profession of faith. Every week, the invitation to stay out late calls.
Looking back on this past year, the Every Nation pastors' conference we hosted in May was one of my personal highlights. Helping plan the conference put my hospitality, volunteer-coordinating, and welcoming abilities to their heights. The benefits of doing what God asked were clear to me, but perhaps unknown to others who spent the entire week outside. Does anyone remember that sunny week in May?
Yet, maybe God's rewards are more visible than we realise. The smile I share on Sunday morning is a lot better than an aching stomach and burning eyes. Light and joy, even in February.
